Gabriel Lowman is an Idaho-born pianist, improviser, and teacher.
His musical journey began in second grade with great promise: Gabriel distinctly remembers pointing to the wrong side of the piano during his first lesson when his teacher, Margie Keenan, asked if he knew which side of the piano was "the low side." Gabriel went on to attend Idaho State University in 2016 and graduate with a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance. At ISU, Gabriel developed a new talent: spreading himself thin. In addition to the necessary requirements for a classical piano degree, he spent an almost equal amount of time developing skills as an improviser. Throughout his degree he studied with both Kori Bond, Director of Piano Studies, and Jon Armstrong, Director of Jazz Studies and Commercial Music. During the studies of his "classical piano" degree Gabriel played drum set for ISU's Big Band ensemble, played in percussion ensembles and concert bands, sang in choirs, debuted compositions, accompanied vocalists, accompanied instrumentalists, and recorded an original album. Gabriel has worked as the choral pianist for the ISU Chamber Choir, ISU's premier choral ensemble, from 2021-2024. He has worked at the Sun Valley Music Institute as a choral pianist from 2021-2023. In the summer of 2023, Gabriel was selected to attend and study at the prestigious Borromeo Music Festival in Switzerland, receiving world-class instruction for both solo piano and chamber music. Outside of music, Gabriel enjoys himself playing video games, reading, mountain biking, hiking, and spending time with close friends. |
